{"id":842,"date":"2022-02-21T14:29:59","date_gmt":"2022-02-21T19:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.humangroup.com.co\/en\/?p=842"},"modified":"2022-02-21T14:29:59","modified_gmt":"2022-02-21T19:29:59","slug":"interpersonal-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.humangroup.co\/en\/interpersonal-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Interpersonal Skills: Human vs. Technical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>What makes for a successful project? \u2026 Fully competent human beings!<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile having relevant technical project management skills is an important aspect of successful projects, having the <\/span><b>interpersonal and leadership skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to work effectively with stakeholders is <\/span><b>just as important, if not more so<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d (Project Management Body Of Knowledge v7 &#8211; PMBOK7 by Project Management Institute &#8211; PMI).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A reflection that we can draw from this paragraph in PMBOK7 is that they are recognizing the importance of \u201cinterpersonal and leadership skills\u201d for project success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are highlighting the relevance of the human beings from their technical to the interpersonal and leadership skills as \u201c<\/span><b>just as important, if not more so<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the \u201c<\/span><b>just as<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d isn\u2019t really valid with respect to the interpersonal and leadership skills. If what we want are competent people implementing successful projects, we have to see them as <\/span><b>\u201cmore important\u201d being the only thing that is valid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is surprising to see that the importance of the well-rounded human being as a determining factor in a project\u2019s success is still questioned by institutions that are internationally renowned in organizational project management.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of considerations like those put forth by these world renowned frameworks, Change Management today, as per methodological guidelines for organizational projects, is defined as a \u201c<\/span><b>nice to have<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d instead of a \u201c<\/span><b>must have<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the reality as universally concerns projects nowadays? Close to 70% of projects end in problems or canceled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you suppose that giving primary importance to the human being as the principal determining factor for successful projects would change this statistic?
